Monteverde Cloud Forest
Monteverde, with its unique tropical flora and fauna, is one of the the best known and most visited areas in Costa Rica. The cloud forest reserve extends along the Cordillera de Tilaran at an altitude between 800 and 1,800 m, on the watershed between the Caribbean and Pacific.
The mountains of Monteverde are often shrouded in mists, creating a fairytale wonderland replete with mosses, ferns, orchids and bromeliads. The thickets shelter an amazing variety of animals. Around 400 species of birds are found in Monteverde, including the enigmatic Quetzal.
